The "Dolan" Oscars

These are not predictions for who will win over the academy, who are not always rewarding the best. My predictions offer you who should win each category, even if the best wasn't nominated. Here we go and tune in on Sunday night to see how wrong these are.

BEST PICTURE nominees: The Departed, Letters from Iwo Jima, The Queen, Little Miss Sunshine, and Babel.

Who Will Win and Why? Right now, it's up in the air but I would have to say that, surprisingly, Little Miss Sunshine has a slight lead over Babel at the moment. Simply due to it's loveable nature and Babel's using of the numerous plot switching throught characters like Crash did the year before. The Academy eats up this shit for breakfast.

Who should Win and Why? Out of the 5 nominated, The Departed should win best picture. That or Letters from Iwo Jima. The Departed was simply a work of Scorsee's that is too good to overlook. However, I think the academy will honor one of the other 2. It's expert cast, dialogue, and directing are the good things about the film that may cost the film the Oscar.

Who will win: Little Miss Sunshine
Who should win: The Departed

Best Actor nominees: Forest Whitaker (Last king of Scotland), Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson), Peter O'Toole (VEnus), Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond), Will Smith (Pursuit of Happyness)

Who will win and why? Forest Whitaker is going to win and he should. IF you haven't seen his performence, you would simply amazed. It's some of the best acting of the last few years. O'Toole MIGHT steal it but it's highly doubtful at all. Whitaker wins and deserves the Oscar.

Who should win and why? See above.

Will/Should Win? Forest Whitaker, Last King of Scotland

Best Actress nominess: Judi Dench (Notes on a Scandal), Helen Mirren (The Queen), Kate Winslet (Little Children), Meryl Streep (Devil Wears Prada), Penelope Cruz (Volver)

Who will win and why? Hellen Mirren for the Queen seems to have this one won already. There is no debate about whether or not her performence is great but she is playing an prominent historical character in a great movie. Plus, Mirren has never wom an Oscar and this will be her validation for this performence.

Who should win? Judi Dench and Kate Winslet don't have enough firepower this year to take over te Queen but their performences should not be forgotten. Esecially Dench, who gets nominated many times and wins alot as well, who may have performed better than Mirren. And Winslet, who keeps getting nominated in the wrong years, gives an outstanding, Oscar worthy performence.

Who will win? Hellen Mirren, The Queen
Who should win? Kate Winslet, Little Children

Best Director nominees: Martin Scorsese (The Departed), Clint Eastwood (Letters from Iwo Jima), Paul Greengrass (United 93), Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel), Stephen Frears (The Queen)

Who will win and why? Eastwood will probably take this just due to the fact that Scorsese gets screwed every time. Frears and Inarritu have no chance. Scorsese or Eastwood will probably take this and I think the academy will award Scorsese

Who should win and why? Not Scorsese, but Paul Greengrass, whose United 93 is as good of a 9/11 movie as we'll ever see, should go home with the prize. Not to take anything away from Scorsese's "Departed" but giving him award would kidn of be like a pity award to me. I think Greengrass did the best job as a director, as Scorsese's film is led more by his cast. Without Greengrass' job, United 93 would have been alot worse

Who Will? Scorsese
Who Should? Greengrass

Best Supporting Actor nominees: Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls), Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine), Jacke Earl Haley (little children), Djimon Honosou (Blood Diamond), Mark Wahlberg (The Departed)

Who will win and why? Eddie Murphy will win because he's Eddie Murphy and the Academy screwed Dreamgirls out of best picture. Arkin's the only other guy with a shot.

Who should win and why? Jack Nicholson (The Departed). Although not nominated, I think Jack's performence was the best one of the movie minus Dicaprio. Nicholoson could act his way out of a murder trial.

Who will win? Eddie Murphy
Who should win? Jack Nicholson

Best Supporting Actress nominees: Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Rinko Kikuchi (Babel), Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal), Adrianna Barazza (Babel)

Who will win and why? Hudson will win because everyone wants her too

Who should win and why? This is difficult. I believe all 4 others were better than Hudson. I think Runk Kikuchi was the best of those 4. Her heartwarming performence of a child crying out for attention was excellent in my view.

Who will win? "American Idol" Jennifer Hudson
Who should win? Rinko Kikuchi (Babel)
