The Race for the Presidency---2008

NEW POST ALERT!! I have decided that I need to update this if I want people to keep reading so here I go. I'll focus on the who, what, and why of the 2008 Presidential Election.

First, who's running?
For the Democrats we have, in this order of most likely to be nominated:
Hilary Rodham Clinton, Senator of NY
Now bear with me. I will not vote for this woman. I don't like her. However, that doesn't change the fact that she is a woman and half the country are women. She is liberal, yet moderate. She has had exposure in one of the major US states, New York, for a numerous amount of years. Like it or not, right now she's got the ticket.

Barack Obama, Senator of Illinois
OBAMA. The only thing keeping him from being #1 right now is his lack of experience. I think and expect the Obama hype to rise and it will be too much for the Democrats to ignore. His color is obviously an issue but his popularity is so high right now he just must pull it off. I think he would steal most the moderates away from the GOP.

Tom Vilsack, Govenor of Iowa
Right now he has campaigned the hardest and has done a nice job garnering some of the nations attention. However, it's Iowa and Iowa sucks. Plus, I don't think the buzz will last will Vilsack unless something dramatic changes.

Democrates predicted nominee: Barack Obama

Republican Candidates
John McCain, Sen of Arizona
McCain is a Vietnam vet who is just itching for the chance to run. He is one of the bigger names and more outspoken Republicans, which is pretty much their only chance in 08. Recognizable to most and much experience puts him atop the Republican list.

Rudy Guliani, Former Mayor of NY
Well, if the GOP wants to win New York, Rudy's the guy. Plus he had a ton of positive support after 9/11 accross the nation. McCain may win the nom, but Rudy's the GOP's best chance to win.

Condolezza Rice, Sec. of State
The most powerful woman in political history. I dont know if she can pull it off with the Iraq problem and her assosication with Bush. However, I just think the GOP needs to do something bold for a win, and pushing a the first black and first woman president all in one would be very bold indeed.

GOP nominee: John McCain

Barack Obama vs John McCain President 2008

Who wins this? Well, Obama does. He can steal the moderate vote with his popularity and bashing the GOP's handling of Iraq. That's it. The color of his skin and lack of experience will not matter once the U.S. people realize that Republicans have had their 8 year turn and to try it on the other side.
(For the love of God, I can only hope this is true.)

OBAMA's vice president?
Well, Oprah's a good choice but I think he'll be more political in his pick. I have no clue whatsoever.

The 10 Best People Alive

Here is my list (based on pure fact) of the 10 most influential (in a good way) and respected people in the World:

10. Bono (singer from U2)
Not a big fan of his music but he has done alot for human rights and AIDS in Africa. Nominated for Nobel Prize twice. A good voice for Africa, as the continent is often ignored.
Quote: "As a rock star, I have two instincts, I want to have fun, and I want to change the world. I have a chance to do both."

9. Jan England, UN Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs
This man travels full time to places with humanitarian crises, hoping to draw world attention to the matters. He has visited Gaza Strip, Uganda, New Orleans after Katrina, India after a major Tsunami and speaks against gender degregation, sexual explotation, and internal displacement, all major problems in Africa.
Quote: (As said by TIME magazine about him) "You will surely hear his voice when our conscience needs a little reminder"

8. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf
Africa's first woman president (Liberia) and only the second black woman elected head of state in the world. She has advocated help to end hunger in Africa and bravely campaigned against former military leaders. Has also promoted economic development and has worked with the world bank to get her country out of the hole. Is the epitome of a "brave woman".
Quote: "I have a great responsibility to meet the expectations of Liberian and African women. I'm humbled by the challenge."

7. Jigme Singye Wangchuk (King of Bhutan)
(Bhutan is a landlocked country between China and India)
Has been king for 34 years. He has brought enviornmental reform and unique national policies. He has a policy of "Gross National Happiness" over "Gross National Product". Has opened his country to foreign leaders, as it was closed before his reign. In 34 years, his country has only had 1 military campaign and it was very short lived to drive extremists out from taking land. The four pillars of GNH are the promotion of equitable and sustainable socio-economic development, preservation and promotion of cultural values, conservation of the natural environment, and establishment of good governance.
Quote: ""Gross national happiness is more important than gross national product"

6. Bill Gates
The man has endowed 29 billion dollars to fight global disease. Do I really need to go on here?
Quote: "I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act."

5. Ma Jun, Chinese scientist
Has called to attention great enviornmental problems that China faces in the next 100 years due to economic growth. A brave man to speak out against the Chinese communist government. Has become a powerful voice in Chinese politics and has proposed numerous improvements to prevent catastrophes in population growth.
Quote: "For the first time, there is some legal basis for public participation ... a major step forward."

4. Barack Obama
Yeah, so I have a soft spot for him. But he promoted many reforms for poverty and related issues. Will be the first black president at some point. Also has visited Africa promoting ethnic unity and peace. Could be the voice of peace for the world in the future. When he talks, people listen.
Quote: "If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress. "

3. Nelson Mandella
Spent 27 years as a political prison rotting in a jail cell. Yet, he promoted peace and unity in a divided South African nation through the 90's as their president. After his presidency, he has spoke out against social and human rights violations and has been a major advocate in fighting AIDS. He has won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Human rights Lifetime Acheivment award, and more than 500 other honorary awards.
Quote: "During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people, I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if it needs be it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

2. Oprah
Blah, blah, blah. I don't feel like describing her. You know she's influential. she has more power the Bush. Woman's rights, AIDS, equality, giving aid to victims of Katrina, rape, and gave cars to her entire audience once. Doesn't make my number 1 because of bias. So deal with it.
Quote: " Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not."

The BEST PERSON IN THE WORLD:
A 130,000 Person Tie
All Troops in Middle East
Bravery. Fighting an unneccessary war. Patriots. Many words describe the fighters in Iraq. They truly are heroes and the epitome of bravery. It can't be fun to be there but they are there for their country.
Quote: " The young patriots now returning from war in Iraq and Afghanistan and other deployments worldwide are joining the ranks of veterans to whom America owes an immense debt of gratitude."

10 Events that Shaped America

Here are 10 events that have made America what it is today, in order. According to me, that is. I'll try to modernize it to make it a little more interesting

10. The Cold War/McCarthy Hearings
As I assume you know, the McCarthy Hearings, as well as the communist threat, inspired a new found paranoia in our culture. It largely shaped the policies and beliefs of many people. Morons.

9. JFK Assasination
JFK's death brought outrage throughout the country, not to mention more paranoia. It also kept us in Vietnam longer than we should have been, because Lyndon Johnson was just a retard. Plus, Kennedy was a pimp. I mean he had Marilyn Monroe, thats ass.

8. The Internet/Computer Invention
I think it goes without saying that this was a very important step in technology. Imagine life without a computer. So many young, desperate girls wanting to be actesses but instead turned porn stars would be out of jobs. Plus it spread communication, but thats not as important.

7. The Fucking Vietnam War
The biggest mistake ever, much bigger than Iraq. So unneccesary to get involved in this, thanks again France, you've led us into to 2 wars that you couldnt win by yourselves. But this war taught America that it was not invincible and defeat was possible

6. The Soviet War in Afghanistan
If we had let USSR just take Afghanistan instead of training troops (ehem Osama) and giving them weapons, the threat of terrorism might be much less. How is this more important than Vietnam and the computer? Simple. We caused 9-11 by getting involved in this. If you don't agree, I dont care, because it's true.

5. The atomic bomb
Inspired a new wave of weaponry that will one day destroy the entire world when N.Korea and Iran get a hold of nukes. I think Henry Truman wished he could have had a mulligan on this decision.

4. The Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo
To end the Mexican American War the U.S. acquired Texas, Califronia, and New Mexico, allowing the United States to expand behond the Mississippi River. Jeez, if this never happened all that land would be Mexico. Then we would have real problems

3. Immigration
Well, you and I may not be here if it wasn't for the U.S.'s "open border" policy that allowed a flood of immigrants to come in. The American Dream was born, as were a ton of poor Irish children. But the flood of immigrants can be seen as the reason for America's economic prowess today.

2. Emancipation Proclomtion
Obviously, inspired the assasination of Lincoln, freedom, the civil war, and the South become even more stupid and ignorant towards Blacks.

1. 9/11
Yeah, I know too obvious. But it's changed everything about American life. Airport security, colored threat levels, increased security everywhere, Iraq, Afghanistan, oil prices, ethnic violence and racism, constant spreading of fear by the media, and paranoia, paranoia, paranoia. 9/11 has brought fear into the lives of the average American, not to mention destabilizing an already destabilized region in the middle east. 9/11 will spread terrorism. 9/11 changed the future in more ways than imaginable.

Worst Countries in the World

The TOP 10 WORST Countries in the World (Wow, I am bored)
This is based on economy, quality of life, and more importantly my opinion.

10. Hondorus
Lowest economy in Western Hemisphere. Drug trafficking and corruption are all over the place. This is the worst country in the Americas (South, North, Central) Highest AIDS rate in Northern Hemisphere, economy is just awful. Just worthless to me.

9. Somalia
Civil war for, like, ever. AIDS, awful economy, very, very low life expectancy. Everything you can expect in Africa.

8. Myanmar (Burma)
Military rule, awful economy, little freedom for it's citizen. One of the highest AIDS rates in the country, opium production very high. Little reasons for hope. This country just pisses me off.

7. Niger
God, Africa is just terrible. In top 10 poorest countries in world with no economic development. Is 4/5th s desert. Life Expectancy is only 45. Infant mortality rate is 13%. 17% literacy rate. Half the government's spending is FOREIGN AID. Basically, Africa in a nutshell. Poor.

6. Malawi
Country in Southern Africa with a 10% Child Mortality rate, worst economy in the world, malnutrition and AIDS are rampant. Life expectancy is 36! Need I say more? The whole country is basically Cabrini Green, just alot hotter.

5. The Democratic Republic of the Congo
Even the movie about this country was awful. One of the poorest countries in the world with the most diamonds in the world. How is that possible? I'll tell you: Over a million people with AIDS, constant civil war, massive amounts of corruption in the government and 1/5th of it's population is displaced. This country is got fucked by one man, Mobutu Sese Seko. He was a very big piece of shit.

4. North Korea
Well, to start people have to worship their president. Famine and economic decline has been spreading since Kim-Jong-IL came into power. Plus he's insane. Having concentration camps. FOR THEIR OWN CITIZENS. 200,000 people a year try to leave the country. Propaganda spread all over the place. This is one of those countries that should be/have been atomic bombed instead of Japan. Hopefully they blow up themselves with their nuke program.

3. Afghanistan
Life expectancy is 43. Drugs are their biggest economic export and I mean heroin not prescriptions. 80% of the worlds heroin is produced here. One of the lowest living standards in the world. No health care, terrorism, and displaced people are huge problems. Economy is based on foreign aid. We fucked this country up hard, but it was fucked up hard before we bombed the shit out of it.

2. Iraq
Obviously. 1 million refugees. The war basically sent their economy into a freefall. Their government is a joke. Hundreds die from terrorism by the week. No sign of letting up. This country is #2 because the future of it is basically going to make it one of the worst countries ever. Terrorism will spread, as oil declines, their economy will be devestated. People don't have homes. We really fucked up bad. Thanks, George.

1. Sudan
That's right the worst country in the world is the SUDAN. If you don't know what Darfur is by now, than your either retarted or just don't keep up. Current genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives. 2 million have been displaced. Meanwhile, they are at war with neighbooring Chad. No freedom of anything, slavery is STILL happening here. They don't even have a government. That's right, NONE, NOTHING controls this country. Worst per-capita GDP in the world. They do not accept foreign aid of any kind, money or military or food or economic trade. Debt, poverty, kidnappings of children as young as 5 are all major problems. Currently, there is no American business allowed to enter or trade with Sudan. They will be poor for at least the next century and the state is basically a real-life anarchy.

Honorable mentions: Every African country besides Egypt and S. Africa, Panama, and Colombia

NFL Playoff Predictions

I guess this blog will just be random. Here are my 2006-07 NFL Playoff Predictions

NFC
Seeds
1: Chicago Bears
2: NO Saints
3: Dallas
4: Seattle
5: Falcons
6: Eagles
5 and 6 could be anyone and to be honest, it doesnt matter who they are
Dallas vs. Philadelphia
Pffffft. Dallas by 10

Seattle vs Atlanta
Pfffft. Atlanta probably won't even be in this game. But whoever is Seattle win with their home advantage.

Chicago vs. Seattle
Rematch. Same Result. Orton could be QB and Bears will still win.

Dallas vs New Orleans
I'm thinking NO is too good but Romo is the man right now. And NO isn't cut out for Greatness

NFC Champ: Dallas vs Chicago
Speaking of not being cut out for greatness, I'll pick the Bears to win only because the NFC is so very, very bad. Dallas gets embarrassed and Grossman throws for 53 yards, 3 interceptions and a fumble. But he's still the QB. (Right, Lovie?) This pick is based on want more than probability. The Bears always blow it in the playoffs and you know what, I think they will play awful. And STILL win.

AFC Seeds:
1: Colts
2: Chargers
3: Patriots
4: Ravens
5: Bengals
6: NY Jets

Patriots vs Jets
Haha, the Jets suck but their schedule is so easy they'll sneak in but get abused

Ravens vs Bengals
Rubber match here. I'll pick the Bengals because they are hot right now.

Patriots vs Chargers
Good game here. I'll pick the Chargers because of LT right now.

Colts vs. Bengals
I really would love to pick Cincinatti. But I , ehhhhh, won't. I really hate the Colts. They'll lose. Bengals win this one because Peyton usually gets something stuck in his throat at playoff time.

AFC Championship: Bengals vs. Chargers
Chargers win easily, I only picked the Bengals because Indy can't stop the run. They are the Notre Dame of the NFL. Great offense, terrible defense.

SUPER BOWL
San Diego Chargers vs. Chicago Bears
Wow Good Game we got here. I can't pick the Bears in this game. They won't score against SD. Unless, Hester returns a punt for a TD, Gould makes a 40 yard FG after a -1 yd drive off a fumble recovery, and Vasher returns an interception for a TD. Alright, fine, Bears win 17-14.

My Oscar Predictions

This is completely irrelevant and unimportant but I have decide to make my picks for the 2007 Oscar Season:
Best Picture
Winner: The Departed Scorsece(sp?) is basically a lock for Best Picture/Director this year
Runners Up: Babel, Little Miss Sunshine Babel's got good reviews and Little Miss Sunshine should be the token comedy nominee but both have little chance at winning.

Best Director
Winner: Martin Scorcese for The Departed. 6 noms, no wins for him? He's got it locked
Runners Up: Pedro Almordovar for Volver and Bill Condon for Dreamgirls. Almordovar (21 Grams) is a lock for a nom but Condon could go either way.

Best Actor
Winner: Peter O'Toole for Venus. Guys old, bad health, 7 noms and 0 wins. Usually means a win. Academy should be ashamed for not giving it to him in Lawrence of Arabia, perhaps the best acting performence of all time.
Runners Up: Leonardo Dicaprio for The Departed and Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland. Dicaprio's a lock with his great job in The Departed and Whitaker may have delivered the best job of the year but he's black and the buzz has gone wayyyyyyyy down.

Best Actress
Winner: Helen Mirren for The Queen. Skip this, she already's got it won.
Runners Up: Meryl Streep for The Devil Wears Prada and Penelope Cruz for Volver. Streep gets nominated like every year and Cruz's performence is good enough for a nod. However, they have ZERO chance of winning.

Best Supporting Actor
Winner: Jack Nicholson for The Departed. It's Jack, Hollywood loves him and it's another great performence.
Runners Up: Brad Pitt for Babel and Ben Affleck for Hollywoodland. Apparently, Affleck can actually act. Go Figure. Pitt's performence is good and it's between him and Jack right now.

Best Supporting Actress
Winner: Abigail Breslin for Little Miss Sunshine. 10-years old. This may be going out on a limb but so was Crash last year and that won. This category is up for grabs basically
Runners Up: Cate Blanchett for Notes on a Scandal and Jennifer Hudson for Dreamgirls. Blanchett's got 3 good ones this year so she'll get a nom, perhaps a win too. Hudson is the token black nominee this year, that's not racist, it's Hollywood.

Best Original Screenplay/Best Adapted Screenplay
Winner, Original: Babel Winner, Adapted: The Departed
These two basically have locks on these respective categories. Not much comes close.

Animated Film
Winner: Happy Feet. A lock at this point.
